All commerce and banking today depends upon effectively unbreakable encryption for both data communication and authentication. Even though computing power doubles every one to two years, increasing the key length in encryption algorithms has provided nearly unbreakable encryption throughout the Internet age. That is about to change. Quantum computing can easily defeat most current encryption technology and is available at the nation-state level for most of the large economic and military powers. It will eventually be available to smaller military powers, major organized crime, and major organized terrorist groups.
This presentation discusses quantum cryptography and how it will change life as quantum computing drops in price.
